From the Desk of the Executive Director

A wonderful success story from a family that used some devices from our AT loan center that was shared with me by Louise Norton.

ATRC success story:

We are very happy to have found the loan center for my daughter.  Sarah’s favorites are the fiber optic and the light globe that spins. As she has a CVI vision impairment, she used to keep downwards gaze all the time. Rarely, she would raise her eyes to look up.

After we introduced to her the switches and adaptive light toys we borrowed from the loan center, we could see a tremendous difference in her response activity. Her hands started to move to activate a toy using a switch. She would even turn to look at the switch to activate her toy. Furthermore, she now makes eye contact as well when we interact with her.

Special thanks to the loan center that could provide adapted toys so Sarah can enjoy while playing with them using various switches.
