Hello,

As most of you are probably aware, the #ME TOO social media campaign has gone viral.  The campaign is raising awareness of the scope of sexual violence in our society.  For some people this may trigger painful memories about past abuse.  Whether someone works for DDS or is supported by DDS, the impact can be significant.  If you or someone you support is need of assistance there is help available.  There has recently been considerable time and effort expended by a variety of entities in providing training to sexual assault centers so that they can better respond to the needs of the individuals we support.

Local sexual assault centers are available 24/7.  If you do not know what center is near you, you can look at the notice below from Jane Doe Inc. for specific information.

Best Regards,

#MeToo Campaign packs a lot into 5 letters

The most recent hashtag to go viral is the #MeToo campaign that invites people to help break the silence about sexual violence. There’s so much to say about this campaign:  the power of survivor voices, the need for more accountability, the stranglehold of rape culture, and the intersection with race, gender, and socio-economics.

  • If you or someone you know needs to talk to someone, an advocate is available 24/7 to provide free and confidential support, discuss options and identify resources. You can find the sexual assault program near you on the JDI website: http://janedoe. janedoe org/find_help/search (CTRL + enter)

  • Please share this information on your social media as well so that people know where they can turn for support.

  • Identify something you can do – talk to your classmates, co-workers, friends, and faith leaders; volunteer; host a training or conversation; learn how you can help prevent assault and harassment.
